ah..a fresh new space to break in.

And here we have our studio space: we are paying to rent this 7,000 square ft. space in the New Music Buldg at McGill. It is getting a tad cold now, since it is a huge vast concrete space, but at least there is a Timmie's nearby. The line ups there are almost as bad as the line ups at University Centre at UofM though. This building was designed by Saucier-Perrotte.

Jardin de Metis:

oh Gaspe. what a beautiful region of Quebec.
Filled with lots of beautiful things and dead moose..hunting season obviously had started.
The above pictures are from the Landscape festival and are
of various installations by artists and architects from around the world. I really enjoyed the project shown in the bottom right (Darcy walking through the strings). They were so fun. The whole place was really enjoyable: we met the owner/ director and we were well taken care of.

sex shops + wet days?

Here we are: St.Catherine's street. Famous for the excellent shopping, as well as its close proximity to Old Montreal. Which (by the way) I have only visited the area a few times, and should go back soon: perhaps when Blair comes next week I will feel ready to tour once again (the Canadian's game take priority though). I think I am getting too settled here in Montreal and I find it easy to let those "visits" slip by... " oh, there's always tomorrow".. The first photo is taken near the appartment I share with three other girls (next to a bike parth I might add), and the other photo is of Anjali and I in front of a great bar on St.Catherine's Street (next to a strip joint, next to a sun glasses shop, next to an art supplies shop, next to the Metropolis...etc etc...) EVERYTHING can live in harmony here. There isnt a day care center yet, but I am sure it will go up right next to the Sexoteque.

university of montreal: architecture building

Intergalactic Intersection

This area is huge: it looms over the rest of us downtown: it is always in site. During my bike home on Mont Royal, its the only thing you can see. Hail..Olympics..

The wrong side of the tracks

Suburbs: You don't have to go far... Streets are barren. There are guys that come to prune the trees to an exact height..its very quiet here..um..lets go back to thickness please.

goddess rachael in action

At this time I would like to thank Miss Guy for coming when she did (a couple days after Anjali, Erin and myself arrived): she took the rest of us to some fabulous places when she first arrived including St.Viateur Bagel shop...indisputably the best bagels ever. Perhaps there are other opinions out there? I am willing to taste them all. Oh bagel kings: Can you guys come back to Manitoba with me?

Old Montreal.

Here are a couple images of old Montreal area: Notre Dame of course...which Anjali, Erin and I managed to get in right before closing for free. Excellent. To tell you the truth I have not been back around that area since we first arrived. I think another visit is due. Hey Erin: I will need some info...its $4.00 to get in right?

Erin enjoying Christmas in September...

at the end of day one: Walked past the instituion that is Schwartz's on The Main (loose meat fit for a king!) Then towards downtown: Anjali, Erin and I took a walk to old Montreal... The sunset was a perfect back drop. Good ol' Habitat. and Salsa crew at the harbour.
First full day in Montreal we hit the CCA: last day for the exhibit on Montreal in the 60's. There was also a major lego fetish going on in the other side of the gallery by Mr. Coupland.... puts my lego collection to shame.

lets start: the eve of the move in

Ok! Perhaps today is the day of all days. For two reasons... 1. I am starting this blog that I have been trying to get going for a month already....but to be fair we have not even moved into our studio space here in Montreal. But that is supposed to happen tomorrow, so maybe this is fitting. McGill has finally given us the "ok" on the space we have wanted. 2. (Almost) A month in: finally comfortable with the city: with much exploring already under my belt, I am ready to blend in. My french is still rusty (really rusty) so I still have to work on that! Doing an Architecture studio here in Montreal: what more can I ask for? The following pics are what I have encountered thus far...
